When we are looking for flights whether long or short haul, we are very lucky to have the internet at our fingertips to be able to research the best and cheapest flights available.
However, it can sometimes be very confusing to compare prices as many airlines, especially no frills airlines, are not totally transparent in their costings. Often you have to go through almost the whole process of booking a flight before you realise what the true cost is. So what are these extras?
Baggage is a classic example. Some airlines charge huge amounts just to be able to take a suitcase with you. They encourage you to take hand luggage only which is not much good if you are going on a two week holiday. And what is worse, if you forget to pre-book the baggage it is even more expensive if you book it at the airport. Some even charge for on-line check in – and as you have no alternative but to check in, you are stung for this hidden charge whether you want to or not.
Many keep the taxes and extra fees hidden until the very end of the booking process. What are these fees by the way? They vary widely between airlines and you cannot help but think that it is just an extra way of making money…
